The Cherry Tomato Bridge brings madness to Dublin

In Dublin’s neighbourhood of Drumcondra there is Binns Bridge, which crosses the Royal Canal and the railway, not far from Croke Park, and which until now had gone completely unnoticed by Dubliners, since it is a bridge without much history, very austere and without anything remarkable, despite the fact that as Drumcondra Road leads to the airport and it’s one of the entry points to Dublin City Centre from the North, there are thousands of people crossing it every day.
Anyway, last week someone left some cherry tomatoes on the top of the bridge’s wall -to leave things all over the place is very common in Dublin-, and in this case the tomatoes were preserved in a perfect state thanks to the sub-zero temperatures of the arctic wave that was affecting Ireland at the time, with a contrast between the white of the ice and the red of the tomatoes catching the attention of a TikTok user, @sarahgriffski, who posted a photo of it.
Then, due to those inexplicable things on social media, a story that in a metaphorical sense didn't have much substance went viral and in recent days the bridge has become a pilgrimage point for a wide range of visitors: commuters who pass by on their way to work or college and are a little confused when they see that image, others who have read about it in the papers or on social media and are intrigued by it, and even some tourists who have seen that it was one of the latest trends in the Irish capital and have gone over to take a photo.
On the other hand, like many other pilgrimage sites around the world, now, at the Cherry Tomato Bridge, which is the new name for the bridge, offerings related to tomatoes are also made, not only of cherry tomatoes, but also related products such as tomato sauce, ketchup, spaghetti and even photographs generated by IA showing people with a tomato head. Or those who make drawings or show their love for someone with a shot of ketchup. A real madness!

Anyway, after a few days, either due to the action of the council cleaning service, whose mission is to keep the city clean and is not very keen on these viral things, or more likely, considering that the train track is full of tomatoes and ketchup containers, by someone who finds it a joke, most of the initial paraphernalia disappeared from the bridge, although it seems that the tomato flame always resurges and survives its deluded gravediggers because cherry tomatoes keep appearing non-stop.
